Letters to Gideon Welles, 1864-1865.

Letter dated October 26, 1865 asks Welles to encourage men in the U.S. Navy to obtain specimens of natural history for Barnum's American Museum. Letter bears a vignette of this museum in New York City by Waters-Son. Letter dated February 4, 1864 reports on blockade runners and suggests that John Greenwood would be suitable for a confidential navy assignment to deal with this problem.
